The number one option I like is using FirefoxDownload it & it should bypass any restrictions that your work or school has.  If you get a prompt that says, "you dont have permission to download any software on this comp", click ok & go back to the Firefox download & right click & save link as to your desktop.  Go to your desktop & open the firefox download.  Then go to myspace....you're there.  Another option:  use proxies. Here's a few:

cooltunnel:  here you can view facebook, various email sites, & forums.

anonymizer:  just enter in the site you wish to visit.

hidemyass:
just enter the site you wish to visit.

Another option is to maybe use the address:  home.myspace.com   instead of myspace.com
just sayin'.

Feel free to add more proxy sites, as i know there are plenty.  I just wanted to share a few

One that I would like to add is vtunnel.com

One thing I wanted to mention to the members is that you need to find a proxy that is trustworthy or well-known. Some proxies are a honeypot that are set up and designed to steal login information. When you are using a proxy you are trusting a "stranger" with your personal information.

So, find a reputable and well-known proxy as listed in the previous posts.

I use portable apps quite a bit.  Works quite well on a 4GB stick.

@minniemosue

Girl you have to hit the "reply" button to post on the forum, not the "report to moderator" link. Come back and ask your question here again so you can get responses from multiple users. And thanks for coming to she-geeks.  Smiley

Found a great site for surfing safely from work.

http://www.workfriendly.net/

Once there, put in the url you want to view. Wait a bit-it takes a few seconds for the page to pop up. You will now see a window open up that looks like microsoft word, yet has loaded your web page request. The formatting is stripped, so it actually resembles a word document. Not sure if it works as a proxy or not, and I'm on summer vacation now so I can't test that function. But if any of you try that out, let us know. It's not the speediest way to search the web-but it's a good ploy if you're surrounded by nosy co-workers.

nice.   Grin  It's a neat little tool.  i found it a couple years ago after Kevin Rose had it on a Digg podcast.  I've used it every now and then when I need it.  *smirk*

Post from my old blog:  http://swytchit.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2006-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-05%3A00&updated-max=2007-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-05%3A00&max-results=48

Its good to have a few of these in your "pocket" in case your environment rolls to "1984".  As an admin myself, I try to be VERY reasonable with the emps...   Wink

I was really wanting to use workfriendly.net and unfortunately it's down [Services for this domain have been discontinued] So I thought it must be around somewhere but found - http://www.plagiarismtoday.com/2008/04/08/workfriendly-yet-another-issue/ (caused a lot of 404s and other problems) and kept looking and found http://www.vanishd.com/ which is kind of cool. But you have to sign up for it. It has a demo, it covers the screen with any kind of doc you want and you peek through a window you can move around. -ct
