Since Facebook has begun to take more attention on our site as more and more facebook codes for private profiles are popping up, we figured it was time for a dedicated Facebook thread. This thread is for your general Facebook questions. We will not post Facebook codes here, as this is a public thread. If you're looking for Facebook private profile codes, those will remain in the code board accessible by registered members only. We will commence moving Facebook threads out of the general Social Networking category and relocating them in here.

I am new to facebook, but i found my target on there. his profile is public so i am able to view everything. my question is, when i do a search for him, is he notified? like some sites (i.e. reunion.com tells you that your name has been searched).

The answer to the first question is no, they are not notified.  On the Facebook TOS, under the privacy settings, it says members are not notified if you view their profile, who you message, who you poke, who you search for, etc.

As for the second, you can find virtually anything they show in a newsfeed.  Keep clicking show more posts on the feed until you can't anymore.  It'll show the exact date they signed up, which is kind of nifty.

Facebook has a built in RSS feed for everyone on a friends' list.  Now, also, there is something called a mini-feed, which only pertains to a specific individual in Facebook, set in their profile.  Whatever a given person wants the public to see that they do (i.e. add a new friend (with name), update their profile and how, join a group, add a new application, and so on) appears in this mini-feed.  No special program needed, and, actually, originally it caused a lot of fuss amongst Facebook users due to the inability to turn it off from the rss feed.  Hope that explains it a little bit.

(Is this the correct thread to post this?)

So, today I was online at home, using FF, doing several things at once, including checking my facebook. At one point I was on another browser tab, and went back to facebook to refresh my profile by hitting the "home" link on it. However, instead of refreshing, it took me to the login page where a person is redirected if he/she makes a mistake typing a password or email address. Now, I'm sure I didn't log off by mistake, as the page before the attempted refresh was on my facebook home.

Paranoid me, the first thing I thought was that perhaps someone had logged in to my account from another computer without my knowledge. So, since I have two computers, to test this supposition I re-logged in to facebook on the computer I had been using, and then went to my other computer to log in there as well to see if I could be logged in on two computers at once. My findings were that once the second login happens, the first computer is logged off automatically. Sooo...I though that maybe I was right that someone logged in to my account from some other computer....

Now that I had time to think about it, I am considering that it's possible that it's just a facebook server error or some such thing (like, when a profile is not available for a few minutes) instead of a haq. Any thoughts? Has this happened to someone else before? Should I be paranoid and change my pswd? Should I scan my computer for mac keyloggers?

I would see it as a server error, bc its happened to me before. but, if and when i get paranoid, i always change my password. even when im at my bestfriends house using her computer, as soon as i get home, i change it Tongue im just weird like that. you can also scan your comp just to be on the safe side, but i think you are okay Wink

Thaks Justy. You're probably right. Just a server error. To be safe, I'll change the pswd though. Smiley

Couple of questions for you guys, maybe someone knows how this works.

First, I go and look at someones page and it says he has 34 friends, BUT when I go to view friends, it says 33.  Can yo hide yourself from showing up on "such and such are now friends" and someones friends list?

Second, his page keeps switching back and forth with the times (this just starting happening).  Like the status update will say at 5pm(which I know was true), then it will say 8pm.

I'll answer it two-fold:

1) two options: either you were blocked by the 1 person or b) settings.  To do the settings aspect, go to the top of the screen, click settings, privacy, search settings, and only friends.  That way, only your friends can find you on facebook.  From this area, you can also set it to not show anything other than add, message, view friends (or less) from the search.  Unless they changed the way to get to the settings, this should be pretty much dead on on how to get to what you would want.

2) I've had that happen before, too.  Sometimes, the server catches you wrong, as in, seeing you log in from the east cost instead of the west coast.  Just a glitch in Facebook; nothing to worry about.

1.  Interesting....I wonder if she knows I saw she was on there.

2. So which time is correct?  Trying to figure out when the a** decided to blow me off lol
